Taveras Snaps Cold Streak, Helps Rangers Defeat Mets

The Texas Rangers broke a five game losing streak on Wednesday thanks to the bats of Leody Taveras and Wyatt Langford.

Taveras hit a go-ahead two-run home run in the seventh inning to catapult the Rangers to a 5-3 victory over the New York Mets, snapping their 7-game win streak. Outfielder Wyatt Langford had a stellar game as well, going 2-3 with two runs batted in.

Rangers starter Andrew Heaney delivered six solid innings, allowing three runs while striking out a season-high nine batters.

“I’ve had some really good [starts], I’ve had some really bad ones, but, you know, I'm just trying to prepare, get ready to take the ball every fifth, sixth day, do what I can to help us win,” Heaney said postgame.

Slugger Pete Alonso hit a two-run home run of his own for the Mets, his 16th of the year. Alonso now has three home runs and 13 runs batted in during the month of June.

With the win, Texas moves to 34-40 on the year and 17-19 at home. The Mets drop to 35-38 on the year with the loss, falling to 17-15 on the road. The Rangers have Thursday off before starting a three game series with the Royals. Game one is set for Friday at 7:05 pm.
